Exposition writting

Today in writing  I have been learning about exposition writing. Our topic was should we have animals as pets. I was on whakahe all my reason were things about less reproduction, uninterrupted cycle of life natural habitat and much more. I had to list loads of reason on why I disagree that animals should be kept as pets. I had to take a stance and argue my opinion. The skills I am learning are writing  reasons and putting them into a graphic organiser, structure a persuasive, look carefully, recognize a reason and a example and also to take a stance on your thoughts.

Narrative writting

In writing I have been learning how to do narratives. We broke down the body of writing into  parts to learn bit by bit. First we learnt how to   to use a graphic organiser to plan my writing. Include key information for the orientation, events, closing paragraphs. Next I learnt how to write the orientation. I had to bring my story to life using adjectives and interesting vocabulary. Then I learnt how to write a middle event for a narrative. I had to write the events leading up the problem, then describe the problem in detail, and stretch out the solution! Lastly I learnt how to write a closing statement to sum the whole story up.

Orientation writting

In writing this week we have been learning how to write an orientation for narrative writing.
In a orientation you  have to include your characters and the setting of where the story takes place.
To intrigue  the reader you must use a hook like a sound such boom or kapow, dialogue, action or description. The hard part was to think of ideas that are suitable for the type of story I am writing. The easy part is to get use to the story i'm writing  and have a continuous flow when writing.

ANZAC Haiku

Today we watched a short film representing what it will feel like in war. After we watched the film we had to write a haiku of what we felt like if we were in this predicament.

Haiku Poems

Today we tried to write haiku poems for a first attempt I found it easy.
Rules for writing a haiku are only 3 lines in the poem first line has 5 syllables second has 7 and last has 5. Haiku poems usually are written about emotion or nature and today I wrote it about a Lion.

Writing goals

Today I have identified my writing goals. my goal  is writing an orientation and closing statement and also write sentences that are expanded in language features.  chose these goals because there the next steps I need to work on in my explanation genre piece of writing to get at a higher standard of rubric writing. Next term we will revisit our goals and see if we have achieved them.

Postcards

For the past week we have been doing postcards for other schools in New-Zealand. We had to use different sites such as anagram maker, thesaurus and notely.  We used an object and had to come up with 40 adjectives to describe the item, from that 40 we had to cut down the adjectives that we thought weren't up skilled enough. Then after that we had to write 18 words down on the paper leaving the top spaces free for our anagram word and the name of our item.

Taumarere

Taumarere is the prominent awa of Ngati Hine.The sacred awa Taumarere  was a main highway of our Tupuna and hence an important initiative for the progeny of Hineamaru. Taumarere When Kawiti reached maturity, he was admitted into Te Whare Wananga mo nga Tohunga, at Taumarere, one of the ancestral villages of Ngati Hine. 

Rugby league

2. First games
3. Finals

In the holidays i went to Rotorua for a maori rugby league tournament. We travelled down in two vans when we arrived to our marae we waited to get powhiri into the marae. Hearing the karanga we slowly walked into the marae the kaumatua stood to speak about whakapapa of the marae. We stayed at at one of the four tapu maraes around the roto. 

The next day we were getting amped for our games we were going to play. We versed Waikato first and got nilled. The next game we scored three tries and got all of our kicks over the post. Waiting anxiously for next game we heard that they forfeit so we packed up our things and went to the Polynesian spa pools to relax our muscles.

 It was finals we training for our last game fighting for third or fourth spot.

We scored two tries on the first half. On the next half we carved up neck a neck to deceiver  who was going to win. We all cheered as the horn went of and that we were the winners of our finals coming back from two tries on first half and then taking third place in the whole tournament.

  

Report writing

In writing we have been learning the genre report. There are 4 main things you need to use  title, subheadings, opening statement and general statement and you can also use a diagram if it's necessary. The easy part was finding lots of facts to group into categories. The hard part was doing the closing statement because we couldn't use facts that was already written in the body of the text.

Here is one of my paragraphs about inanga

Life cycle       

The Inanga is one of five galaxiid species whose young's are mainly known
as Whitebait.
Out of all five of the species only Inanga life cycle is percisive to people.
Adult females lay their Eggs at estuaries on a spring tide.
Then the Eggs turn to Larvae and the Larvae goes to sea.
The next cycle is when the Larvae turns to Whitebait.
Whitebait then make there way back to the estuary till eventually
the Whitebait turns to Inanga and Inanga are found in freshwater.

Explain

In writing we are learning the genre explain. Explain is a piece of writing that excludes argumentative talking reiteration and opening statements. I am use to this particular type of writing things I find easy is using correct language and filling my writing with facts. The thing I find hard is to constantly use writing skills that is appropriate.

Metaphors

This week we have been learning how to use metaphors. Metaphors are  similar to similes. Metaphors are a  figure of speech in which a word or phrase is inserted to an matter or activity it is  not literally relevant.The hard part was to connect a figure of speech so it makes sense in what your writing. I now have learnt about why metaphors are important when to use them and not to use the words like or as. When using a metaphor you need to have two nouns and  one adjective.

Poems

Lately we have been doing poems. We have been searching the different genres of poems so far we have done 4 different types of poems. The easy part was to add images and designs the hard part was to to think of words that are descriptive.

Tuhituhi/Poetry

This week for writing we have been making connections in our poems.The task was to work around the word gala and then the first thing that comes to your mind is what you write down and so on.The easy part was finding pictures of famous people to match the words we had.The hard part was to find the letters we need for the poem out of the magazine.

 

Tuhituhi

In writting we have been doing persuasive writting. The hard part was to persuade the people to the topic when they strongly agreed with the opposite topic. The easy part was to write what I thought of the topic and what side I thought  was better.
