Angles

In math we have been learning how to draw, identify and name angles that are acute, obtuse, right and straight. An angle is formed when two lines meet at a shared point. They are measured in degrees, which are represented by the symbol °.  

Rounding

Today in pangarau I was rounding numbers small and large the nearest ten. The easy part was knowing what to do with rounding rule which is 1-4 rounds down and 5-9 rounds up.

Solar system

We have been learning about the solar system.We learnt the time on how long it takes for the planets to orbit the sun and then we halved and quarter the time to see what equation would be.We used multiple strategies such as Division Subtraction Algorithm Algebra Decimals and Addition.The hard part was dividing the numbers to get the right fraction. The easy part was adding up the 1/4 and 1/2 to make a 1/3.

ADDING DECIMALS

This week we have been learning how to add decimals. We had to learn the rules of the decimal point and where and who it works. The easy part was to use algorithm as a strategy to work out the addition questions. The hard part is to answer the question without working my thinking. Success criteria is if your using place value you carry number higher than 9 and always add or times from right to left.

Roman Numerals

In math we have been learning roman numerals , It was hard at first to understand but since I'd already learnt I caught onto it quickly. The easy part was realizing that If you put a smaller numeral before a large numeral then your subtracting.The hard part was trying to make others understand on how the procedures work of the roman numerals.

Problem solving

For problem solving this week we were doing is te iti rawa and te nui rawa. We had numbers 1-6 we had to choose 4 and try make the biggest number and the smallest number. The highest number my group made was 360 and the lowest I made was -10.

Problem solving

In class we are very ecstatic about math we are in small groups of people we are problem solving questions that we need to explore to find new ways. We are recording our math in a systematic way.
We have been trying to think of ways to investigate the problem we are trying to figure out. We all have different ways of thinking which means we all have many ideas and a bunch of things to say.My next step is to always use a systematic table and contribute to the group.

Problem solving

In math we were learning skills for problem solving such as exploring strategies, explaining our thinking, extending further information, evaluating and learning to reflect. We were working as teams to adapt our skills to explain to each other our ideas using talk moves to help understand our thinking. The thing I need to work on is to be more supportive and work with my group more.

Making 37

In math we were learning how to make 37 out of 10 numbers using the numbers 1,3,5 and 7. I explored this and found out this is impossible to make 37 out of these numbers because odd and odd equals even.
All the numbers we were exploring were odd which means it can only make even. To make 37 you can use numbers such as 9 11 still using the 1,3,5 and 7. You can solve this question by not using 10 as a total.

• 7+1+7+1+3+1+7+1+1+1+7=37
• 1+7+1+7+1+7+1+7+1+3+1=37
• 3+1+7+5+5+7+7+3=37

Fractions and precentages

In math I have to work on fraction percentages. I find fractions and percentages hard because i have not yet learnt these math skills. I've moved from stage 6 to early 7 in the progressions of math. My next steps are to become fluent in my math skills.

Intergers

This week we have been learning about  integers.I believe that it was easy because we were learning a really easy strategy called hills and dales. Integers are negative numbers  e.g  -8 + -7 =-15

The past weeks we have been learning to see math in everything we see here is my work.

24 hr time

Today for Pangarau some of my class and I have been learning to tell 24 hour time. The easy part was to write down the answers for the questions that I understand. The hard part was knowing when the time reset after it hits 24 hours. 

I can tell the digital time by:

Knowing the patterns of the time

Pm starts with 1 or 2

Am starts with a 0

The time resets when it hits mid night

Telling the time

This week I have been learning about analog clocks and digital clocks.The learning that we did was very helpful because it helped me learn what I need to learn about clocks.We were transferring analog clock to 24 hour clock.It switches to 24 hour time midday (12 pm). In the morning say 2:00 it will be 0200 and in the after-noon at 2:00 it was 1400.Know that I know how to do this it will help me better with clocks.
                                                                                                                                                         

Co-operation works

For awhile now we have been doing talk moves for maths. The thing that I enjoyed about it was all the co-operation.It was fun answering and asking these questions because it was interesting knowing the different strategies of the one equation. It was really a challenge to answer some of the questions if you don´t know any other way to explain the problem.

For awhile now we have been learning how to problem solve with all the strategies that we know.

The easy part was to have an idea on what to learn also asking questions like how did you get this answer or is there another way you can explain it.The hard part was to know what strategy is suitable for the task given and explaining your strategy to  the group in another way.
